To continue onto the lecture pages you will be required to enter a password. This is necessitated by the need to protect copy write figures used on these pages. This has been requested by the publishers for permission to use the figures on this web site. I am looking to replace these figures with those released without copy write on the web, but this will take time. To reach the lecture pages press the following link.

In the following section of the course I will deal with topics that often appear in the news. Issues dealing with molecular biology, genetic engineering, gene therapy, cancer, flesh-eating bacteria, Ebola virus, beaver fever, autoimmunity, allergies are topics which draw much attention. The focus of my lecture series will be to provide you with background knowledge to evaluate these stories more critically and to have a deeper understanding of the research involved in these breakthroughs. Finally I want to point out to you the role your own University is playing in these exciting times. The Biology Department in the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Medicine here in Calgary are very active in a number of areas of study and are contributing on a regular basis to the advancement of our knowledge about human kind and the diseases that afflict us.
