The Canadian Research Institute for Law and the Family (CRILF) is a non-profit, independent institute that began operations February 1, 1987. The major goals of the Institute are to undertake and promote interdisciplinary research, education, and publication on issues related to law and the family.

The Institute was incorporated on the basis of a proposal prepared by a Study Team composed primarily of members of the Faculties of Law and Social Work at the University of Calgary. The Institute is managed by a Board of Directors composed of experts in disciplines related to "law and the family" from across Canada.
