Anita Silvey

For readers of children's literature the Horn Book magazine is a bimonthly delight. Anita Silvey was the Editor-in-Chief of this prestigious journal for eleven years, leaving only in the fall of 1995 to join Houghton Mifflin as Vice President and Publisher of the Children's Division. During her years with the Horn Book, she launched a new publication, The Horn Book Guide to Children's and Young Adult Books. While working with these periodicals she has lectured throughout the United States and Canada, written for other journals and taught a course at Simmons College Graduate School of Library Science in Boston.

Proir to joining Horn Book, Anita was on the staff of Houghton Mifflin as Manager of Children's Book Advertising and Promotion, and later as Library Marketing Director for the entire trade book division. She has been active in several well known children's literature organizations, serving on the board of IBBY, as chair of the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award Committee, Chair of the New England Round Table of Children's Librarians and on the board of the Children's Book Council.

Anita hales from Indiana, and has been acclaimed by Fort Wayne as one of the thirty-eight famous sons and daughters of that city. She will be the featured speaker at the Kaleidoscope 6 plenary session following breakfast on Friday morning.
