Leadership Profiles and Checklists

School Leadership: A Profile Document is by Svede and Jeudy-Hugo from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (1997). This website is based on Begley's (1994) publication, School Leadership in Canada: A Profile for the 90's. The site includes much of the original text and a list of references and Internet resources.

Becoming a Community of Learners: Emerging Leadership Practices is by Stinnette, Peterson and Hallinger (1996). This website is a checklist for reflection on leadership practices.

Principals' and Teachers' Organisations and their Leadership Resources

Canadian Association of Principals

The principals.org website is from the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

The Principal Online website is from the National Association of Elementary School Principals.

The American Association of School Administrators website includes articles on "Front Burner Issues," conferences, programs and American legislative alerts.

The Saskatchewan School-Based Administrators' Professional Development Program is a modular program which was developed in response to a 1991 initiative from the Saskatchewan School-Based Administrators special subject council.

Other Leadership Resources and Research

The Leadership website, from Pathways to School Improvement is created by the North Central Regional Education Laboratory. It includes the following topics:

The Educational Issues and Information section of the Saskatchewan School Trustees' Association website includes a variety of leadership-related research reports.

The Role of Leadership in Sustaining School Reform: Voices From the Field (July, 1996) is a report from the U. S. Department of Education. "What 'habits of mind and heart' enable some school leaders to guide successful school change over time? Here's what dozens of successful education leaders across the country said in response to that and other questions on The Role of Leadership in Sustaining School Reform."

The Leadership for Learning website from the North Central Regional Educational Laboratory includes publications such as "New Leaders for Tomorrow's Schools", a listserv and other leadership resources. The "Leadership Audit Tool" is an online questionnaire regarding leadership style.

The Staff Development Library: Leaders and Leadership page from the National Staff Development Council website includes a variety of articles and research reports.
