This excellent series of ten separate walking tours has been produced by local historian Harry M. Sanders, who is, himself, a pioneer of sorts in the area of the study of Calgary cemetery history. The guide is well researched, entertaining and leads you logically through 109 sites within the cemetery. The guide contains a lot of new research and has been very popular. Two weeks after its release, I saw no less than five people in Union cemetery with Sanders' book in hand.

This smaller walking tour guide, containing a single tour of 40 sites, will pique your interest in cemetery history. It has been around for some time and is available free of charge at the Union Cemetery office or the Heritage Advisory Board in City Hall. Quantities are limited, however, and the publication will probably not be produced in the future. Although not as in-depth as Sanders' work, this guide is still well researched and illustrated.
