What Happened to George Schuetz?

We are researching the life of my wife's great-grandfather, Mr. George Schuetz (left), who married Minnie Myrtle Preece in Jefferson, Iowa on June 2, 1904. The Minister was E.W.F. Reoma (sp?) and the witnesses were Elmer and Elizabeth Dolton (Minnie's sister and brother-in-law). They had a daughter named Louise Elizabeth born in Feb. 1905.

The Preece family was from Toledo, Ohio, so we suspect that George Schuetz came from either the Jefferson, Iowa area or from Toledo. He was believed to have been a railroad man and may, as well, been connected to a family by the name of Ochsner (also of Toledo). George, Minnie and their daughter moved to Canada with the entire Preece family (Minnie's Father's name was John Preece) in March 1905.

George Schuetz separated from the family following the death of John Preece in 1906 and may have returned to the United States following his release from hospital in Manitoba (possibly under the care of a relative) in 1910. He was rumored to have died in a railroad accident. As Minnie re-married in 1914, this would have been during the time 1910-1914.

The photographs on the following pages were sent to Louise Elizabeth when she was a child, presumably by relatives of George Schuetz who lived in the United States at the time. Louise Elizabeth died in October of 1995 at the age of 90. The captions from the backs of the photos have been included with the spelling mistakes intact.

George Schuetz currently has a granddaughter, two great-granddaughters, two great-grandsons, three great-great-granddaughters, two great-great-grand sons and a great-great- great grand daughter who are alive today and care very much about adding his story to their personal histories.

If you recognize any of these photographs or have any information concerning these people (or can give us any suggestions as to directions of future research), please contact me by e-mail or post at the addresses listed below. Thank you for taking the time to view these web pages.

There are six pages of photos and one page of related documents. They are in a higher resolution in case you want to print them off and show other relatives; please feel free to do so. they may, however, take a while to load.
