Palestinian Versions of the Eighteen Benedictions

1. Forefathers:

Blessed are you O Lord, our God and God of our forefathers

The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob

The great God, the mighty and awesome, the supreme God

who bestows lovingkindness

he is the master of all

and he remembers the gracious deeds of the forefathers

and brings a redeemer to their children's children

for the sake of his great name, in love.

King, saviour and protector.

Blessed are you, O Lord, shield of Abraham

Blessed are you O Lord, our God and God of our forefathers

The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob

Master of the heavens and earth

Our shield and shield of our forefathers

Our security in each generation

Blessed are you, O Lord, shield of Abraham

2. Power

You are mighty forever, O Lord

resurrecting the dead, you are great to redeem

[who causes the wind to blow and the dew to fall]

who apportions life graciously

who resurrects the dead with great compassion

who supports those who are falling and frees those who are confined and keeps his faith with those who sleep in the dust.

Who is like unto you, the powerful one,

and who resembles you,

the one who causes death and life.

And you are faithful to revive the dead.

Blessed are you, O Lord, who revives the dead.

You are mighty

Who humbles down the proud

Strong

and brings down tyrants

who lives for eternity

who raises up the dead

[who causes the wind to blow and the dew to fall]

who apportions life

who resurrects the dead

Like a blink of an eye you shall cause our salvation to blossom.

Blessed are you, O Lord, who revives the dead.

3. Sanctification of the Name

You are holy and your name is holy

and the holy ones each day

praise you, selah.

Blessed are you, the holy God.

You are great and your name is awesome

and there is no divinity other than you

Blessed are you, the holy God.

In each generation we shall proclaim your greatness

and for all eternity we shall sanctify your holiness.

And your praise, our God, will not budge from our mouth forever

for you are a great and holy king.

Blessed are you, the holy God.

4. Knowledge

You bestow knowledge on humans

and instruct people in understanding.

Bestow upon us from you knowledge and understanding.

Blessed are you, O Lord who bestows wisdom.

Bestow knowledge upon us from you

and teach us understanding from your Torah.

Blessed are you, O Lord, who bestows wisdom.

5. Repentance

Cause us to return, our father, to your Torah,

and bring us near, our king, to your worship.

And draw us back in complete repentance before you.

Blessed are you, O Lord, who desires repentance.

Cause us to return, O Lord, to you and we shall return.

Renew our days as of old.

Blessed are you, O Lord, who desires repentance.

6. Forgiveness

Forgive us, our father, for we have sinned.

Absolve us, our king, for we have transgressed.

Blessed are you, O Lord, the compassionate who is abundant in forgiveness

Forgive us, our father, for we have sinned before you.

Erase and remove our transgressions from before your eyes.

For your mercies are plentiful.

7. Redemption

See our affliction and fight our battles.

Redeem us speedily for the sake of your name.

Blessed are you, O Lord, the redeemer of Israel.

8. Healing

Heal us, Lord, that we may be healed.

And bring upon us a full healing for all our wounds.

For you are God, the merciful healer.

Heal us, our God, from the pain of our hearts, and remove the plague from us.

Agony and sighing lift from before us.

And bring upon us remedies for our pains,

and a cure for our wounds

9. The Annual Seasons

Bless for us, Lord our God this year for good

and all the varieties of its grain.

And give dew and rain on the face of the earth

for your name's sake.

And satisfy the whole world from the blessings of your goodness.

And moisten the face of the universe with the richness of the gifts of your hands.

And preserve and rescue, O Lord our God, this year from all kinds of destruction and all kinds of punishment.

Have care and compassion, and be merciful towards us and towards all its fruits.

And may have plenty and peace and blessing for its outcome

as the blessing of the good years.

And instil a blessing in the work of our hands.

For you are the God who is good and does good.

Blessed are you, O Lord, who blesses the years.

Bless  for us, Lord our God this year,

all the varieties of its grain.

Bring near to us speedily the year of our redemption

and give dew and rain generously upon the face of the earth

for your name's sake,

and satisfy the whole world from the blessings.

10. Ingathering of the Exiles

Sound the trumpet for our liberation

and raise up a banner for the ingathering of our exiles.

Blessed are you, O Lord, who gathers the dispersed of his people Israel.

And gather us together from the four corners of the earth to the abode of your holiness.

11. Justice

Restore our judges as at first,

and our counsellors as in the beginning,

and remove from us agony and sighing,

and reign over us you alone

in mercy and righteousness and justice.

12. The Heretics

May the apostates have no hope

and may the malicious empire be speedily uprooted,

and may it be destroyed and vanquished in our days.

And may the Nazarenes and the heretics perish  instantly,

and may all the enemies of your people and their foes be quickly cut off.

And break the yoke of the nations from upon our necks.

Blessed are you, O Lord, who destroys the wicked and vanquishes the infidels.

May the apostates have no hope

as long as they do not return to your law.

13. Support of the Righteous

Upon the righteous and the pious

and upon the righteous proselytes

may your mercies be stirred, O Lord our God.

And give a good reward to all those who trust in your name in truth.

And place our portion among them.

And we shall not be shamed

for we have trusted in your great name.

Blessed are you, O Lord, the stay  and trust of the righteous.

Upon the righteous and the pious

may your mercies flow, O Lord our God.

may your mercies be stirred.

along with those who do your will.

14. Building of Jerusalem

Have mercy, O Lord our God, upon us

and on Israel your people

and on Jerusalem your city

and on your sanctuary and your temple

and your abode

and on Zion the dwelling-place of your glory.

And build up Jerusalem as an eternal structure.

Blessed are you, O lord, the builder of Jerusalem.

Have mercy, O Lord our God,

on Israel your people

and on Jerusalem your city

and on Zion the dwelling-place of your glory

and on the  kingdom of the house of David your anointed one.

Build your house and complete your sanctuary.

14b. David's Sprout

Cause David's sprout to blossom now, and his horn will rise up in your salvation.

Blessed are you, O Lord, who causes the horn of salvation to blossom.

15. Hearer of Prayer

Harken unto our voices, O Lord our God, have concern and take pity and be merciful for us.

And accept with compassion and willingness our prayer.

For you are the God who harkens unto our prayer and our supplications,

and you will not return us empty-handed from before your presence.

Be responsive, our sovereign, to our prayer, and listen to our  sobbing even as you listened to the sobbing of our ancestors.

Blessed are you, O Lord, who harkens unto prayer.

Harken unto our voices, O Lord our God, have concern and be merciful for us.

And accept with compassion our prayer.

For you are the God who harkens unto our prayer and our supplications.

Blessed are you, O Lord, who harkens unto prayer.

Harken unto our voices,

and listen to our prayers.

And have mercy on us,

and speedily fulfil our desires.

For you are the compassionate and merciful God.

16. Worship Service

Be accepting, O Lord our God,

of your people Israel and their prayer.

And restore the worship service to the sanctuary of your house.

The burned offerings of Israel and their prayers speedily receive willingly.

And may the service of your people Israel always be acceptable.

And may our eyes behold your return to Zion in mercy as before.

Blessed are you, O Lord, who restores his presence to Zion.

Be accepting, O Lord our God,

And dwell in Zion.

Your servants shall serve you.

In Jerusalem we shall bow down to you.

In mercy be desirous of us, and be accepting of us.

Blessed are you, O Lord, whom we worship in awe.

17. Gratitude / Acknowledgment

We give thanks to you.

You are the Lord our God and the God of our ancestors

for all eternity.

For our lives that are entrusted into your hands,

and for our souls that are in your care,

and for your miracles that are with us every day,

and for your wonders that are at every time, evening and morning--

for all these, may your name be blessed and exalted, our king, for all eternity.

All living beings acknowledge you, selah!

Blessed are you, O Lord, whose name is good, and to whom it is fitting to give thanks.

We give thanks to you.

You are the Lord our God and the God of our ancestors.

And for all the good things and lovingkindness and mercies that you have given us, and which you have performed with us and with our ancestors in previous times.

And if should our feet stumble, your lovingkindness, O Lord, will support us.

Blessed are you, O Lord, to whom it is good to give thanks.

18. Peace

Bestow peace,

goodness and blessing, lovingkindness and mercy

upon us and upon all Israel your people.

And bless us all together in the illumination of your countenance.

Because in the illumination of your countenance you have given us, O Lord our God,

the law of life and the love of kindness,

righteousness and mercy, blessing and peace.

And it is good in your eyes

to bless your people Israel

at every time.

Blessed are you, O Lord,
who blesses his people Israel with peace.

Bestow your peace

upon Israel your people

and upon your city

and upon your inheritance.

And bless us all together.

Blessed are you, O Lord, who creates peace.

Much peace

upon Israel your people

you shall bestow for all eternity.

For you are the king,

master of all peace.

And it is good in your eyes

to bless your people Israel

at every time and at every hour

with your peace.
