Ed received the B.A.Sc. in engineering science, 1984, M.A.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering, 1987 and 1991; all from the University of Toronto. He worked at Inverpower Controls Ltd., Burlington Ontario, on Medium Voltage Induction Motor Drives, before going to the University of Calgary in 1992, where he is presently an Associate Professor in the Dept. of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His current research projects are in the area of switch mode power converter design for alternative energy sources. He enjoys hiking with Elke and their three kids, Peter, Sophia and Christopher, and making the occasional wooden toy (batteries not included).
