DR. FRANCINE G. SMITH

Dr. Smith has extensive experience in studying the physiology of the fetus and newborn and has worked with chronically instrumented animals throughout her scientific career. Her graduate training in which she studied renal function during fetal and newborn life was carried out under the supervision of Dr. Eugenie Lumbers at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. Supported by a C. J. Martin Scholarship for Overseas Study, sponsored by the NH&MRC, Australia, Dr. Smith carried out her post-doctoral studies at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, in the laboratory of Dr. Jean Robillard, during which time, she established a new methodology for recording from renal sympathetic nerves in vivo in conscious fetal and newborn sheep. Dr. Smith was recruited to the Faculty of Medicine, University of Calgary, in 1991.
