GAGGS General Elections 2013‏ - Apply Now

Interested in getting more involved? Know a grad student that is keen and would be a great GAGGS rep?! Being an executive member is a great opportunity for teamwork, networking, gaining leadership experience, not to mention hosting totally awesome events!!

The Graduate Association of Geology and Geophysics Students (GAGGS) will be holding their general election to fill vacancies in the following executive offices:

Who can run, you may ask?!

Any graduate student from the Department of Geoscience! The application form can be found by clicking here .

Just fill it, get two sponsor nominations from any of your fellow grad students in geoscience and submit your application to either Christine Benyon (ES 263) or Stephanie Round (ES 108).

Election Timeline:

  • March 29, 2013: Applications open
  • April 8, 2013 (4pm) : Applications close



  • Act as a liason to the GSA and GSC
  • Attend GSA meetings (can be a shared responsibility)
  • Organize meeting agenda
  • Work with all GAGGS execs
  • Oversee all activity planning and work with team
  • Collect event/year-end reports
  • Submit year-end report to the GSA
  • Help out where needed with events

VP Finance

  • Handle GAGGS Finances
  • Collect/keep track of members
  • Maintain money and finances (incl. Cash box & bank card)
  • Apply for external funding
  • Arrange changeovers in signing authority

VP Academic

  • Attend Faculty of Science meetings (biannual)
  • Attend department meetings (monthly)
  • Organize academic events (i.e. Grad Talk Series, short courses)
  • Apply for external funding

VP Communications

  • Organize all GAGGS communications –including: email, facebook, posters, website, any other ideas (eg. Twitter)
  • Track and distribute meeting minutes

VP Events

  • Coordinate events and social events
