This conference is being held in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Persons' Case in Canadian history, whereby Canadian women were recognized as "persons" in matters of rights and privileges, and not only in matters of pains and penalties. Prominent women from representative countries will be giving a number of keynote speeches designed to shed light on the status of women as persons in their home countries. It is recognized that personhood is an issue in other countries, and it is hoped that this conference will act as a springboard for future discussions to include other countries. |
