The University of Calgary High School Model United Nations Conference has been held at the university for over 25 years. The conference is a weekend long simulation of committee meetings for the core bodies of the United Nations.  Students are assigned to a country and a committee prior to the simulation and are responsible for representing the foreign policy of the country which they represent. Each committee has a variety of topics which introduce and challenge the students to understand the global issues of the day, from security issues such as terrorism to global health problems such as HIV/AIDS.  Through the simulation students participate in formal and informal debate, and resolution writing and engage in the act of diplomacy, negotiation and multilateral cooperation.  The conference is organized by a volunteer staff of undergraduate students from all faculties and is supported by the Department of Political Science, the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Political Science Association and the University of Calgary Model United Nations Team.
