YOHO / FIELD AREA

Field, British Columbia is about 15 km west of Lake Louise on the Trans-Canada Highway. This valley is a "cold" area in winter, not getting much sun due to the huge mountainsides that line both sides. As result, the ice can often be brittle, but it does last making for a long season.

This area contains a large number of routes of all grades that are generally easy to access, but with SERIOUS AVALANCHE POTENTIAL. Check on the conditions at the Warden station in Field. They also have a "photo-guide" (by Graeme Pole) to help you locate your route. Avoid routes below south facing sun-filled bowls on warm days.

Details on specific "CLASSIC ROUTES" by clicking on the climbs in boxes. For more information on the other routes, consult the guidebook.

The Little Yoho Valley also contains a large range of routes, requiring access on skis. Further W on Trans-Canada are the climbs on Mt. ???? and the climbs near the Five-mile bridge in the Kicking Horse Canyon, east of Golden (possible access problem with CP Rail)
