Karla published Childhood in Germany During World War II: The story of a little girl, (The Edwin Mellen Press, Lampeter) in 1988. It was entirely based on her memory and pioneered what has become a new genre of literature in Germany. Since then she has researched the topic and found that her memory was remarkably accurate. There are a few technical errors with dates and the order of events but all in all the story is authentic and true.

Below is the Table of Contents. You can read Chapters One, Ten, Nineteen and Twenty-nine online by clicking on the link for each of these chapters. The complete book can be obtained from The Edwin Mellen Press. The price is unbelievably high, so ordering it through a library is probably the best way to read a copy.
