Diane Tremaine (Jean Simmons) is a homicidal maniac with the face of an angel. Determined to kill her controlling stepmother, she becomes obsessed with an ambulance driver, Frank Jessup (Robert Mitchum). She convinces the besotted Jessup to be her chauffeur. When she is finally successful in murdering her stepmother, she accidentally kills her father too and Diane and Jessup are tried for murder. They are eventually acquitted but Jessup  decides to leave her, which brings the film to a tragic conclusion.

Simmons is aptly named in Angel Face and she plays the role of Diane with innocent charm. Her chaste beauty is a perfect counterpart to her murderous intent and it is easy to see why Jessup falls prey to her charms.
