Artwork by Derek G. Smith

My brother has surprised my dad and myself with paintings of our cars. Dad's was his 1998 Christmas gift, and mine my 1999 birthday gift.
The artwork was done by Derek G. Smith, a retired technical draftsman, who's attention to detail is outstanding.
I've reproduced the paintings as best I could here, keep in mind that they don't fit on my scanner. I had to photograph them and then scan the photos. To add even more problems, dad's '30 had already been framed and I had to contend with the glare off of the glass while photographing the painting. The photo of the painting of my '28 was taken prior to framing.
These small images are linked to 800x600 scans if you wish to see more detail. For even larger images there is an 1024x768 link below each image.

Both paintings were done based on photographs of the cars and their owners. Dad's portrait is quite obvious in the painting of the hiboy, in the painting of the '28 my family can be found behind the right front fender of the central image.

Derek works from pictures of the car(s), owner(s), and any significant back drop (house, scene, cottage etc.)
Any ideas on what the customer would like to see. A brief history of the car and owner also influences the presentation of the artwork.
