September 9 - November 20
There and Gone is a project involving three Alberta artists, Walter May, Laura Vickerson and Peter von Tiesenhausen that will be presented at Galeria Klimy in Warsaw, Poland in June 2005.There are several aspects of practice, such as engaging narratives and the eloquent use of materials, which link these artists works. This is one of the reasons why they have been asked to exhibit together. The exhibition of works presented in Poland will then open at The Nickle Arts Museum in September of 2005. In addition to the works in the show, there will also be documentation addressing the conceptual development and production of the Warsaw installation. This will be an important aspect of the exhibit, making the Alberta audience aware of the processes involved in creating a complex exhibition abroad.
The aims of the exhibition and artist talks are to acquaint a Polish audience, intellectuals and artists with the art of Alberta; to make them aware of its vitality and energy, of its processes and thoughts, of its strength in reflecting national trends within a regional discourse. The artists and curators will develop within their presentations several significant connections pertaining to the cultural life of Alberta and to the Alberta Centennial. There and Gone also serves as a counterpoint to the Sense of Place exhibition, highlighting artistic considerations of place through the work of May, Vickerson and von Tiesenhausen as well as a celebration of the Alberta Centennial.
