Computer-mediated communication (CMC) and On-Line Learning
Online Resources by Faculty Development Associates http://www.developfaculty.com/online/index.html
This is a very useful list of distance and online learning concepts, each with a definitive resource linked to it. Samples include: blended learning, classroom management, collaborative learning, case method, learning styles models.
Computer-mediated communication (CMC) is "any communication using computers"
( Burton , 1996).
CMC has the potential to promote collaborative learning because the asynchronous
communication literates learners from time and location constraints.
This can provide enhanced interaction amongst diverse members (e.g. students, teachers,
researchers, parents, subject matter experts) of a learning community. In addition,
the emphasis of CMC on written communication can further enhance learning because the
process of writing requires gathering, organizing, and clarifying thoughts.
Videoconferencing: interactive video communication via videoconferencing
can boost productivity, improve morale, and improve access to geographically dispersed
expertise. It can enhance students' learning and provide a significant competitive advantage
in business and corporation by reducing time-to-market and cost-effective trainings.
