The project involves an attempt to demonstrate the mechanism of the insertion of oxygen into a C-H bond by the novel oxidizing agent, dioxirane (CH2O2)
The IRC connecting dioxirane + methane to methanol + formaldehyde . In the (Z)-1 to C-1 direction, the methoxy migration step is preceeded by a rotation about the amide C-N bond which takes the acyl group out of conjugation with the N lone pair and orients the pi* orbital of the acyl group into position to receive the non-bonded electrons of the oxygen.
