Chandra Venables, PhD candidate

Chandra began her Ph.D. in September 2010. For her thesis, she will initially construct a molecular phylogeny for common western Canadian predaceous diving beetles, with a special focus on the tribe Agabini. Future projects are still being worked out, but will likely involve analyses of phylogeography and diversification in Nearctic Agabus and related genera.

Before commencing her Ph.D., Chandra had undertaken a Masters at the University of Calgary, co-supervised by Dr. Derek Sikes and myself, on phylogenetics of Nicrophorus beetles. In between degrees, Chandra worked for the Government of the Northwest Territories as a Wildlife Biologist for two years.
