Tamaratt:  The Vision Behind the Initiative

The Tamaratt Professorship in Geoscience is the U of C’s first endowed teaching professorship and part of an ongoing effort to improve the experience of undergraduate students. It’s also one of the latest milestones in a growing national trend to help professors learn to be more engaging with their students.

This professorship was made possible by a $1-million donation from two alumni, Tara and Matt Brister, who share the university’s commitment to enhancing teaching and learning experiences in higher education. The Tamaratt Teaching Professorship is novel because it provides resources for a scientist to focus exclusively on teaching and research into better ways of delivering science education.

The Tamaratt Mission Statement

To develop and implement a multi-faceted plan to improve the learning experience of students in the Department of Geoscience and Faculty of Science at the University of Calgary. This will be accomplished through projects that address student engagement and learning in geoscience courses, science literacy, leadership and mentoring, and participation in the science education research community.
