Here's our platform for why you should vote YES to the Student Refugee Program referendum question

Referendum: YES Campaign

At the UofC, the Student Refugee Program (SRP) sponsors refugee students who critically need an opportunity to pursue further education in a place free from violence or fear. You are already involved – currently one student every year is able to study at the UofC as a result of a student levy that was introduced in 1986. But the cost of living has increased since 1986, and more students need this assistance to leave refugee camps and pursue a better future.

For less than the cost of a coffee, we can transform the life of another refugee student. We are aiming to achieve a $1.25 increase for full-time students and $0.50 for part-time students to the levy-based SRP fund at the UofC. This increase, which will see the current fee of $1.00 raised to $2.25 for full-time students and $0.50 raised to $1.00 for part-time students, will enable us to double our impact by sponsoring two students to study at the UofC every year.

This fee covers all the refugee students’ financial needs—tuition, books, food, and accommodation. The money goes directly from you to the student with no administrative costs. This is the only program of its kind in Canada. It also offers students and faculty the opportunity to learn firsthand about refugee and development issues, and provides opportunities to be exposed to other cultures and communities. Let’s come together to support a program that benefits us all.

The SRP is sponsored by World University Service of Canada (WUSC), a network of individuals and postsecondary institutions who believe that all peoples are entitled to the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute to a more equitable world. WUSC is fundamentally about education – the reason why we are all here.

We need your support, please come out and vote YES! Thank you.

Join our facebook group!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Watch our youtube video:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why sponsor refugees?
