カプセル・ホテル (capsule-hotel)

This is indeed all you get as a single "room" in a real hotel, appropriately called a capsule-hotel. This is a unique way to stay in a big urban city such as Tokyo or Osaka.
Always found in an easily accessible location, such a hotel provides a customer with a key to a designated locker. The corresponding "room", however, does not have a door to lock one in. Inside the room, one finds minimum facilities, it includes a clock with a timer, radio, clean bed linen and a luxury item: a TV set. In the public area, there are small lounges, vending machines, telephones and a large bathroom. A capsule-hotel essentially provides a bed for the night. In most cases, it is for male customers only, but recently such hotels for females started to appear. In the day time, it even provides an hourly rate. Here, through this unique hotel, we are seeing the meeting of diverse and special needs in modern cities. |
