Technical support:

The laboratory receives support for system maintenance from a team of people at Information Technologies, University of Calgary. Danny Wong, Paul Wellings and Harold Esche have all contributed to ensuring that the computers in the lab operate at peak performance capability.

Earth Systems Modelling Laboratory

The Earth Systems Modelling Laboratory was designed for use by members of my research group. This lab contains powerful computers designed for numerical modelling, GIS, remote sensing and statistical analysis. The machines are fully equipped with the latest software necessary for all types of geomorphological analysis. In addition, researchers at the University of Calgary have access to MACI, a powerful supercomputer shared by several universities (for more on MACI visit www.maci-cluster.ucalgary.ca). The Earth Systems Modelling Lab provides one of the best locations to undertake geomorphological modelling research in Canada.

In the Fall of 2001, the Earth System Modelling Laboratory was one of only several laboratories chosen to be visited by NSERC President, Dr. Tom Brzustowski (www.nserc.ca/about/preseng.htm) on his visit to the University of Calgary. My students each had an opportunity to discuss their research project with Dr. Brzustowski, which was followed by a discussion about earth sciences research in Canada.

The Earth Systems Laboratory was also visited by the Dean of Social Sciences, Dr. Stephen Randall and Dr. Keith Archer (at the time Interim Vice-President Reseacch) to showcase research being undertaken in the lab. My graduate students discussed their research projects with Dr. Randall and Dr. Archer.
