Sarah Ellis

Sarah Ellis was born and brought up in Vancouver, attending the University of British Columbia and graduating with degrees in English and Librarianship. After working at the Toronto Public Library for a year, she returned to the west coast and continues her librarianship with the Vancouver Public Library. Her fascination with children's literature has led to a Master's Degree at Simmons College, Boston, teaching courses both in the U.S. and Canada, reviewing for many publications, a regular column in Horn Book, storytelling and, of course, writing books.

Her first book, The Baby Project, was awarded the Sheila A. Egoff Children's Book Prize in 1987 and Pick‚Up Sticks won the Governor General's Literary Award in 1991. The Canadian Author's Association recognised Sarah's contribution to the field of children's literature by awarding her the Vicky Metcalf Award.
