Mishnah Chapter Name

Every Tractate of the Mishnah is divided into chapters. Each chapter has a name, which is usually derived from the opening word (or words) of the text of the Mishnah.
When several chapters in a tractate begin with the same word, some other identifier is added to the name: e.g. "The First," "Last," "Greater," etc.

Both the name and the number of the chapter are indicated in the top central area of the page.

The use of chapter names is more common in connection with the Talmud. Because it is more covenient and precise to designate Mishnah chapters by their numbers, the names are not usually employed in the citation of references [By contrast, the Mishnah passages that are incorporated into the Babylonian Talmud are not numbered].
