Abstract
We introduce the Qualitative Sensitivity Analysis (QSA) technique and its applications for systems modeled in rule based causal format. The rule set is composed of interacting atomic propositions. First, we introduce the Modified Causal Ordering (MCO) technique to derive ordering among the propositions. The result of MCO are complete subsets of propositions and an Ordinal Reachability Graph (ORG). Each complete subset is identified by its ranking code. In QSA, propositions stand for the landmarks of the qualitative variables. QSA begins with the ORG and replaces the propositions with their equivalent landmarks. Sensitivity is defined qualitatively in terms of possible shift to the neighboring landmarks. QSA can derive the sensitivity of the higher rank landmarks due to perturbation affecting the lower rank ones. Here we introduce the application of QSA for performance evaluation of discrete event dynamic systems (DEDS) and also generating diagnostic rules for concurrent malfunctions in rule based systems. We demonstrate the approach through two detailed illustrative examples.

Abstract
SQFD, a subjective fault diagnosis technique, using qualitative modeling and reasoning within the skill-rule-knowledge (S-R-K) framework, is introduced. The focus is on automation of the cognitive aspects of human operators, that includes conceptual modeling, causal reasoning and learning. The distinguishing points are: representing fault diagnosis as a goal-oriented activity; utilizing qualitative modeling and reasoning to detect inherent redundancy in system behavior and predict future states; and information selection to avoid computation overload. An application to concurrent faults diagnosis of an industrial plant is reported.

Abstract
日本原力研究所は1987年からHASP(人間関係シミュレーション)と名付けた人工知能とロボティックスに関する研究を推進している。HASPは、原子力における人的作業の定性的、定量的評価、人的作業の機械化、施設の知能化等について有用な知見を得ることを目的として、命令理解、行動計画、定性推論、視覚認識、二足歩行ロボット、被曝線量評価等の研究を行っている。このうち定性推論では、道具等の機能を獲得、説明する機能推論手法等の研究開発を行っている。本レポートでは、知能ロボットの基盤技術の1つである機能推論について述べる。第一部では、従来の機能推論の研究、つまり機能推論の定理と手法を様々な角度から解説し、人工知能の関連する分野、例えば定性推論、計画、機能的な設計、学習、そして故障診断等への応用を紹介する。また、機能推論に現れる基礎概念・前提を考察することで、理論の問題点を明らかにし、従来の機能推論の定理・手法と人工知能技術の関係を明確にする。そして、第2部では、定性的機能形成という手法を提案する。この手法は、従来の定性的なモデルに時間的状態変化とその同期を付加したものであり、一連の定性的な状態を解釈することとあわせて、機能概念を取り出すことが出来る。その結果、いくつかの機能推論の問題を解決することができ、また、様々な機能や道具等を機能によって比較あるいは分類することが可能になる。
