Column (A): Location and span of the best homology with the E. coli K12 genome. The region putatively spanned by the clone is given if the matches with both ends of the clone are in the correct orientation and are within 100 kb in the E. coli genome.

(B) Orientation of the clone. ">" indicates a T3 to T7 orientation on the E. coli genome. "<" indicates a T7 to T3 orientation.

(C) Clone name. Clones that contain homologies in the E. coli K12 genome that are not closely adjacent are marked with a star, "*".

(E) Distance spanned in the E. coli K12 genome in those cases where both ends of the clone match E. coli. Bold italic numbers indicate a discrepancy of over 4000 bases between the clone size and the corresponding distance in the E. coli genome.

(F) and (G). "++" indicates a greater significance than e-100 in BlastN when compared to the E. coli K12 genome. "+" is a significance between e-50 and e-100. "?" indicates a significance of between e-10 and e-50 that is supported by a match of greater significance at the other end of the clone in the correct orientation and nearby in the E. coli genome. "0" indicates a significance below e-50 in the E. coli genome. Bold italics underlined indicate S. typhimurium sequences that have their best homology with previously known Salmonella sequences. The exceptions are marked Eco, E. coli strains other than K12; Cit, Citrobacter Klb, Klebsiella; phg, phage; Ppu, Pseudomonas putida. IS indicates an Insertion Sequence.
